Birkmire Big Box is a division of Birkmire Trucking Company, which has been in business since 1947. In late 1988 the owner, Tim Birkmire, realized the demand and growing market for on-site storage. Before long he had over 300 storage trailers and over 400 ground level units. In 1999 we expanded our business to offer the construction industry office trailers.
During the year 2000 he noticed the on-site self storage demand shift toward mobile self storage. Shifting to the customers needs once again required a shift in our organization to better serve those needs. We added to our fleet - trucks, landoll trailers and we also developed a special straight truck designed for moving loaded "Big Boxes". It was the biggest breakthrough in moving and storage since the moving truck was invented!
Our delivery system allowed us to gently lower and retrieve the container using smooth hydraulic power. Now instead of scrambling around renting, driving and loading a truck in one day, our customers could now pack and move at their leisure. WOW!
March of 2005 he noticed many of our residential customers having problems fitting our large boxes at their residence when moving and we needed a unit that we can easily transport across the country to service our customers anywhere they may move to. Tim, again, took our mobile storage to the next level. We now offer boxes that are 5'x 8'x 7 ½' and offer inside climate controlled warehousing for all of our "Big Boxes". Offering mobile warehouse storage has been appealing to both the residential user and commercial user. The customer ultimately handles their contents: once to load and once to empty!
Our new Erie to Anywhere service allows us to service the entire country, setting us apart from our competition once again! We are a registered and insured motor carrier throughout the 48 states. Therefore, allowing us to service the entire country!
Birkmire Big Box is family owned and operated with many life long employees. We have the knowledge and expertise to supply quality service for this demanding industry. Throughout the years, we didn't just want to be as good as our competition, we strove to be better - we feel we have met those objectives and look for continuous improvement.
